Last weekend I attended my friend Robin’s Dia de Los Muertos party, which also subbed as a Halloween party for those of us too bedraggled to celebrate properly in the middle of the school week. And because she is one of the most creative people I know, my friend Julie came to the party dressed as Jonathan.
But who is Jonathan, you might ask? And if so, let’s just introduce you two:
Jonathan, you see, is an internet phenomenon. I’m not sure I can say why. Maybe something about a combination between his 1,000 yard stare and the journalist’s valiant attempt to salvage what she hoped would be a easy capstone to an otherwise insipid “story” about the local fair? Who’s to say, really? The internet is capricious.
Because I am lame and forgot, I did not take a picture of Julie’s awesome version of “Jonathan.” However, she looked pretty much like the kid above, and walked around saying, “I like twertles.”
And for those of you thirsting for more about this awesome little kid, Jonathan also made the Washington Post. The Washington Post! I hope someone somewhere is writing a dissertation on YouTube. That’s a research topic just waiting to happen.

I somehow missed Jonathan when he first did his rounds. That was hilarious. And your friend’s costume sounds great.

It was! I *really* wish someone had snapped a picture. I may just force her to dress up again so I can recreate the moment.
